Hobby Picture Framing Workshop

The Hobby Course is designed for participants wishing to use basic framing techniques to frame their own pictures. The course introduces the role of colour in mat selection, provides the first steps to mat cutting and design, walks through picture frame assembly, (you do not cut your own frames in this course), and explains the proper materials and techniques used. The course will introduce the basic components of shadow boxes and a dry mounting and laminate.

Hobby Framing - Day 1
Morning - 3 hours
  • Introduction to shop equipment
  • Use of mats
  • Mat and moulding selection for a 8 x 10 frame
  • Cutting the single mat
Afternoon - 3 hours
  • Materials and techniques for proper framing of a print
  • Cutting a double mat

Hobby Framing - Day 2
Morning - 3 hours
  • Assembly of a frame and fitting of a picture
  • Cutting the V Groove mat

There will be time to practice and frame your own pictures.
Afternoon - 3 hours
  • Demonstration of basic shadow boxes
  • Cutting offset corners on mats

Students may spend time finishing projects started on course.

Membership benefits include discounts on framing materials and services to make it easy and convenient for you to frame your own pictures. Needle art Framing Workshop

We offer a workshop on how to stretch and frame needle art. This is a 2 part course teaching the proper materials and methods used in framing needle art.
